Andrew is road tripping today and it got me thinking; what’s the best road trip car on sale new today.
My first thought ran to range, which means diesel.
I think I would go with a grand Cherokee eco diesel.
Air suspension for comfort, crazy diesel range, lots of room for things (sleep inside if you need) and ready for random weather events as well as ready to take the odd non paved road or beach making for a more exciting journey.

Good choices...not new cars

Grace. Space. Pace.

I think you nailed it.
A Ram 1500 Ecodiesel Crew Cab would work too. Just as comfy plus you can get a 36 gallon extended range gas tank.

Good choice. Race the sun speed and comfort to boot

Yeah, that with a topper and camp setup in the bed would be solid

You said on sale, not new.

We had a 2015 Grand Cherokee V6 4x4 Limited while visiting Iowa, last week. We probably spent a combined 18 hours in it, with multiple two hour non-stop stretches. It was a truly great vehicle. Comfortable, quick, spacious, and it had tons of stuff. I’d highly recommend.
The only thing I didn’t like about our rental is that it had those hideous gold New York plates, but there’s nothing we can really do about that.

Cadenza and Avalon are comfortable, relatively quick, well equipped, and aren’t very bad on fuel. The Optima is also one of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever roadtripped in, and it gets quite excellent fuel economy too.

Xc90 t8. Great car. Fast car. Can get practically free free fuel overnight at the motel. Very comfortable.

I wound prefer a wagon body over a sedan for impromptu sleeping but they all are comfy

I’d just go with the new version of my car, which is to say an A8L. I would’t bother with the diesel, but you could if you felt like it.

Done.
If only it was a production car...

Enough space for your luggage, you, your trusty dog and a V8.

I did it on mobile and it had something wrong there so I edited it.

If Lexus offered the LS 600h as a diesel-electric hybrid, I would have to go with that. Since they don’t I think you’ve nailed it with the Jeep.
And, it would be moderately uncomfortable to sleep in the LS since only one person could lay flat, and then only if they are short.

the best road trip vehicle is always a Mercedes. better yet; a diesel Mercedes.
more range than most things In the world. extreme comfort. 4Matic for when you need to take a little non-paved detour. enough grunt to get you going. decent in corners. has a lot of alert systems to keep you safe. great sound system to blast “holiday road” with. understated styling so it won’t get stolen. spacious.
It’s like old jaguar’s “grace. space. pace.” with a touch less pace.
if you want the pace, I suggest an S65 AMG

Not a huge amount of room for stuff, but I think a 991 Targa 4S would be an awesome road trip car.

Volvo V60 T5 with the 4-cyl turbo. Perfect ride, best seats ever, great fuel economy and understated enough to fly under the state trooper’s radar.

I voted with my own money, 2015 Honda Accord Coupe . Affordable to buy, cheap to own, 4cyl fuel efficiency, still plenty of power for passing (VTEC, yo) and comfortable seats to boot.

This.
Why?
Fuck fuel economy.
That’s why.

530d xdrive, nearly 1000 miles to the tank if you’re careful according to top gear
